The Digital Nomad Visa is designed for international teleworkers, that is, foreigners who reside outside the EU to carry out a remote work or professional activity in companies located outside their national territory.

The residence permit for digital nomads is designed for:

  • Workers such as employees
  • Self-employed persons (Freelance/Contractor)

And what are the requirements to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa in Spain?

  • Demonstrate having at least 3 months of seniority in the company or employment relationship with your clients
  • Have post-secondary education qualifications or at least three years of professional background
  • Bank certification proving at least 25,000 euros
  • No criminal record
  • Have medical insurance
  • Prove the existence of the real and continued activity of the company with which the Applicant contracts
  • Prove documentation that reflects that the employment or professional relationship with the company is carried out remotely, as well as documents that demonstrate the terms and conditions of the remote activity

You may apply for a residence permit in Spain to work remotely for a maximum of three years, renewable for two extra. This allows, in many cases, to apply for Spanish Nationality during that time.

Furthermore, after 5 years, you will be able to obtain permanent residence.

Like the Golden Visa, you can go to the Consulate or Embassy of your country of origin or it can be requested directly from Spain if you can come as a Tourist.

Instead of 50%, as a Spanish resident would pay, the holders of a Digital Nomad Visa must face a fixed tax rate of only 24% on the income they earn in Spain, regardless of their earnings on a global basis up to 600,000 EUR.
